Acts of Thomas

patristic · acts · c. 200–240 · Syriac

The apocryphal acts that carry the Thomas-in-India tradition: the apostle, sold as a carpenter to the merchant Habban, sails for the court of king Gundaphar, builds him a palace 'in heaven', and dies at Mylapore under king Misdai. Devotional romance even to ancient readers — yet the Mar Thoma churches of Kerala keep the grave, the songs and the name to this day.
