Canons of the Fourth Council of Toledo

conciliar · canons · 633 · Latin

Seventy-five canons under Isidore of Seville: one liturgy for all Spain, a rule that councils meet yearly, and — canon 75 — an oath binding the nobility to the elected king with anathema against usurpers. It is a church-state settlement as much as a code of discipline.

⚠ the same council legislated harshly against Jews and forcibly baptized children, which the record carries rather than omits
