Herodias pressed him to go to Rome and ask Caligula for the title of king, which her brother Agrippa had just been given. Agrippa sent letters after them charging that Antipas had stockpiled arms for seventy thousand men and had conspired with Sejanus and with Parthia. Antipas admitted the armoury and could not explain it. Caligula gave his tetrarchy to Agrippa and banished him — to Lugdunum in Gaul, says Antiquities; to Spain, says the Jewish War. Caligula offered to spare Herodias, since she was Agrippa's sister, and she refused and went with him. No source records where or when either of them died, which is why this page carries a place of death and no date at all.
The tetrarchy ends, and the man who beheaded the Baptist leaves the story alive.
