In 597 Augustine and his forty companions, sent by Gregory the Great, landed in Kent and were received by king Æthelberht, whose Frankish queen Bertha already kept a chapel. The king's baptism followed, Canterbury became the mission's seat, and the English church this dataset's Canterbury line follows began.
