After crushing Bar Kokhba (132–135) Hadrian erased Jewish Jerusalem: the city rebuilt as Aelia Capitolina, Jews forbidden entry. Eusebius marks the consequence for the church — the line of bishops of the circumcision ends with the fifteenth, and Marcus begins the Gentile succession in a Gentile city.
