Around 295 David, bishop of Basra at the head of the Persian Gulf, left his see and went to India, the Chronicle of Seert records, where he evangelized many people. The one-line notice is the earliest documented Christian mission to India — a generation before Nicaea, and three centuries into the Thomas tradition it found waiting.
