Martyrdom of James the Just

martyrdom · 62 · Jerusalem

In the interval between two governors, the high priest Ananus had James the Just stoned — Josephus records it plainly; Hegesippus adds the parapet, the fall, the fuller's club, and the prayer for his killers. The mother church lost its first bishop within a decade of losing its city.

Jerusalem loses the Lord's brother.
