The apostles and elders met at Jerusalem — Acts 15 — over whether Gentile converts must keep the Law of Moses. Peter spoke, Paul and Barnabas testified, and James gave the sentence: no yoke beyond the necessary things. The decree, carried to Antioch by Judas and Silas, freed the Gentile mission and set the pattern for every council after it.
The Council of Jerusalem or Apostolic Council is a council described in chapter 15 of the Acts of the Apostles, held in Jerusalem c. AD 48–50.
Must Gentile converts be circumcised and keep the Law of Moses?
No yoke beyond the necessary things: abstention from idol-meat, blood, things strangled and porneia — the Gentile mission freed from the Law.
