Julian (361–363) shed no blood by edict; he did not need to. Privileges were stripped, the clergy's immunities revoked, and Christian teachers barred from the classical schools — while mobs took the hint, as when George of Cappadocia was lynched in Alexandria. The restoration died with Julian on the Persian campaign.
