The Repose of Luke

other · 84 · Thebes

The received account has him die in Boeotia at eighty-four, unmarried and without children, and this dataset marks the role reposed rather than victim because no tradition makes him a martyr — the later Western strand that hangs him from an olive tree at Thebes is a medieval addition with nothing behind it. His relics were carried to Constantinople under Constantius and laid in the Church of the Holy Apostles beside Andrew's and Timothy's, which is a separate event and is not authored here.

An evangelist who is not a martyr, and relics that end up in the Apostoleion.
