Around 957 Olga, regent of Kyiv, traveled to Constantinople and was baptized at the imperial court — Constantine VII, who recorded her reception, standing among her hosts. Her son Sviatoslav refused the faith; her grandson Volodymyr made it the faith of Rus'. The Primary Chronicle calls her 'the dawn before the sunrise'.
