It began in a quarrel: Barnabas wanted Mark and Paul would not have him, so they parted and Paul took Silas. At Troas he saw a man of Macedonia asking for help, and the narrative changes person — 'we sought to go on into Macedonia' — which is where Luke joins it. Then Philippi and the jail, Thessalonica and the riot, Athens and the Areopagus, and eighteen months at Corinth. Corinth is why this journey is the chronological anchor of the whole period: Acts 18:12 has him brought before Gallio, and an inscription at Delphi dates Gallio's proconsulship to 51-52. Almost every other date in this dataset's first century is reckoned outward from that stone.
