Eusebius has it from Hegesippus. Under Trajan, with a search on for descendants of David, certain heretics accused Symeon the son of Clopas of being both of the house of David and a Christian — two charges, either sufficient. He was tortured for several days at the age of a hundred and twenty, and Atticus the consular is said to have been amazed, along with everyone watching, that a man of that age could bear it; then he was crucified. Whatever the number is worth, the point the source is making is that the last man alive who had known the Lord's family died under torture, and that the church of Jerusalem passed at that moment out of the hands of his kin. This dataset already called him a martyr and recorded no martyrdom.
