First bishop of Ephesus, and the recipient of the two letters that are the earliest detailed picture of how a church was run. Byzantium keeps him on 22 January. Rome kept him on 24 January until the calendar reform of 1969 moved him to 26 January and joined him to Titus, so that the two men Paul left in charge of churches are now remembered on one day in the West and on two separate days in the East.
