For a rock is every disciple of Christ of whom those drank who drank of the spiritual rock which followed them, and upon every such rock is built every word of the church, and the polity in accordance with it

Origen on the answer of Peter at Caesarea Philippi. He takes the blessing pronounced on Peter to rest on the grounds of it — that flesh and blood did not reveal the confession — and concludes that whoever confesses on those grounds stands where Peter stood. The rock is then not one man but the confession, and every disciple who makes it.
