Second-century apocryphal acts, the whole of the record for Thecla. Tertullian (De Baptismo 17) says a presbyter in Asia was deposed for writing them 'out of love for Paul', which is a rare datable notice of how such a text came to be — and he cites them because women were using Thecla to justify teaching and baptising. ANF volume 8 translation; always cited as tradition, never as history.
