Registered here for its first appendix and not for the book around it. In 1905 a broken slab was found at Delphi carrying a letter of the emperor Claudius, and among its lines is the name of Gallio as proconsul of Achaia; the emperor dates his own letter by his tribunician year, so the stone fixes when Gallio held the province. This is the first full study of it in English: Deissmann photographs the fragments, prints them transcribed and restored, and reasons out the bracket. Acts puts Paul before that proconsul, so almost every date in this dataset before about 60 is measured, at one or two removes, from these twenty-five pages.
