Where the church actually was before Nicaea, province by province, with the evidence for each named. THE TWO VOLUMES ARE DIFFERENT BOOKS AND ONLY THE SECOND IS THE SURVEY: vol. I is the mission's message and methods, vol. II is the geographical index — vol. I returns six occurrences of Bithynia against vol. II's twenty-seven. Harnack's account of the church's development is a Protestant liberal thesis about decline from an original simplicity; his lists of which sees are attested where and by whom are a different thing.
