Serial biographies of the bishops of Rome; earliest redaction 6th century, continued into the 9th. Primary for the Roman line's ordering and dates. ⚠ THE LOOMIS RANGE WAS WRONG HERE BY 125 YEARS: this row said her 1916 translation covers to 715; the last life in it is Pelagius II (579-590), read off the text 12 Aug 2026. 24 of the 88 popes cited to this row begin after 590, from Sabinian (604) to Constantine (708) - the citations name the WORK, which was continued into the 9th century, so they stand, but no English translation registered here reaches them. Duchesne's critical edition does (see duchesne-liber-pontificalis). ⚠ AND THE LOCATORS NO LONGER USE OUR ORDINAL: they read 'the life of <pope>', because the LP prints Cletus and Anencletus as two lives and its numbering diverges from this dataset's from the third life on, so 'the life of the 52nd bishop' pointed at a life no edition numbers that way.
