An account of the Carthage martyrdoms of 203 built round two prison diaries — Perpetua's own and Saturus' — framed by an editor who saw the end. Perpetua's section is the earliest surviving writing by a Christian woman and one of the very few first-person texts from any woman of the Roman world: she records her father's visits, her infant, her dreams and her fear, in her own voice. Printed in ANF vol. 3, which this project does not hold: cited, never quoted.
