parable · parables of Jesus appearing Matthew 25:14-30 (as Talents) and Luke 19:12-27 (as Minas)
A master entrusts sums to three servants and returns to settle accounts; the one who buried his portion is condemned for the burying. Luke tells a variant with minas and a nobleman seeking a kingdom. The English word talent, meaning an aptitude to be used rather than hoarded, comes from this parable and from nowhere else.
