Six parallel columns of the Old Testament — Hebrew, Hebrew in Greek letters, and four Greek versions — compiled so the church could argue with the synagogue about what the text said. The greatest work of textual scholarship in antiquity; it was too large ever to be copied whole, and is lost apart from fragments.
