Sentence against John Chrysostom

The deposition of John Chrysostom by a synod of his enemies at a villa across the Bosphorus, on twenty-nine charges that Socrates preserves and that read more like a schedule of grievances than an indictment. He refused to attend on the ground that his accusers were sitting as his judges. The sentence held; the verdict did not, and his relics were carried back into the city in triumph thirty-four years later. Socrates' account is at HE 6.15.
