Annunciation

gospel · -6 · Nazareth

Gabriel came to a virgin in Nazareth betrothed to a man of the house of David, and she answered 'let it be to me according to your word.' The calendars keep it on 25 March, nine months to the day before the Nativity — the East calls it the Evangelismos, the good announcement, and the feast is older than most of the sees in this dataset.

The Annunciation is, according to the Gospel of Luke, the announcement made by the archangel Gabriel to Mary that she would conceive and bear a son through a virgin birth and become the mother of Jesus Christ, the Messiah and Son of God, marking the Incarnation.

To announce the Incarnation and receive Mary's consent.

The Word is conceived; the tradition's whole story begins.
