Acts is unusually blunt about it: there arose a sharp disagreement, so that they separated from each other. Barnabas wanted to take Mark, who had turned back at Perga on the first journey; Paul would not have him. So Barnabas took Mark and sailed to Cyprus, and Acts never mentions him again. It is the last we see of the man who had vouched for Saul when the Jerusalem church was still frightened of him, and who had been named first on the first journey. Cyprus was his own country — Acts introduces him as a Levite of Cyprus — and the church there counts him its founder and first bishop.
