Feeding of the Five Thousand

gospel · 29 · Bethsaida

Five loaves and two fish for five thousand men besides women and children, and twelve baskets of broken pieces left over. It is the only miracle recorded in all four gospels, and the earliest Christian art on the catacomb walls draws the loaves and fish more often than the cross.

In Christianity, feeding the multitude consists of two separate miracles of Jesus, reported in the Gospels, in which Jesus used modest resources to feed thousands of followers who had gathered to see him heal the sick.

Twelve baskets of fragments — the sign all four gospels keep.
