Martyrdom of James son of Zebedee

martyrdom · 44 · Jerusalem

About the year 44 Herod Agrippa, courting the city, killed James the brother of John with the sword — one verse in Acts, the first apostolic grave. Spain's later legend carried his relics to Compostela; the sword remained his sign.
