In the fourth year of the revolt Titus took Jerusalem and the Temple burned — the catastrophe Josephus witnessed and counted in the hundreds of thousands. Eusebius records that the Jerusalem church, warned by an oracle, had withdrawn to Pella beyond the Jordan; when it returned, the centre of the Christian world had passed to Antioch, Alexandria and Rome.
