On the first Sunday of Lent, 843, the empress Theodora and patriarch Methodius restored the icons for good. The Synodikon of Orthodoxy — proclaimed in procession that day and read on the same Sunday ever since — sealed the end of a century of iconoclasm.

Icons restored in perpetuity; the Synodikon proclaimed — kept as the feast of Orthodoxy on Lent's first Sunday ever since.
