The Bollandist's short book on how a saint's legend is manufactured — what happens to a name, a day and a place as they pass from a calendar entry through a panegyric into a passion, and why so much hagiography is worth so little as evidence for the person it names. It is the honest general note this dataset owes its readers before any legendary material renders, and it is gloss material rather than row material: it grades nothing by itself and names almost no dates. ⚠ CRAWFORD'S 1907 ENGLISH, NOT THE FRENCH.
