Where Mansi gives a folio of Greek, Hefele says what happened — every council in order, in English, from the documents, and crucially the hundreds of LOCAL synods the ecumenical seven overshadow. ⚠ NINETEENTH-CENTURY CATHOLIC SCHOLARSHIP written in the run-up to Vatican I: Hefele was a bishop, voted against papal infallibility, then submitted, and his framing of Roman primacy in the early councils is a position rather than a report. Use for facts and chronology and pair with an Orthodox reading, as this project already does with Percival, OrthodoxWiki and the Pedalion. The English translation is itself abridged in places; for a load-bearing claim, note which text was used.
