Origen’s last great commentary, written at Caesarea about 246 to 248 when he was past sixty, and the work Eusebius dates beside the Contra Celsum. Of its twenty-five books, ten to fourteen survive complete in Greek and the first two as fragments. Its twelfth book carries the reading of "thou art Peter" that most of the Greek fathers after him follow — that the promise is made to the confession rather than to the man, so that every disciple who can make it is a rock and receives the keys.
