Transfiguration

gospel · 29 · Mount Tabor

Up the high mountain — Tabor by the old tradition — Peter, James and John saw him transfigured, his face like the sun, Moses and Elijah beside him, and heard the voice from the cloud. The East keeps the feast as the showing of the uncreated light.

The Transfiguration of Jesus is an event described in the New Testament where Jesus is transfigured and becomes radiant in glory upon a mountain. The Synoptic Gospels recount the occasion, and the Second Epistle of Peter also refers to it. Ancient Christian texts considered non-canonical by Catholic and Eastern Orthodox doctrine, such as the Treatise on the Resurrection from the Nag Hammadi corpus, refer to the scene as well.

The three see his glory between Moses and Elijah.
