Archbishop of Cyprus · c. 45 (Barnabas and Paul preach the island — Acts 13)
Barnabas the Cypriot came home with Paul in the island's first mission (Acts 13), and the tradition seats him at Salamis as first bishop and martyr. The church of Cyprus fought off Antioch's claims and had its independence confirmed at the Council of Ephesus in 431 — the oldest autocephaly still standing.
Continues today as the autocephalous Church of Cyprus.
