The church of Acts 11, where 'the disciples were first called Christians', with Peter as its first bishop by tradition and Ignatius its great martyr-bishop. Third see of the pentarchy, teacher of the East through its exegetical school; after the divisions of 518 this line follows the Greek (Chalcedonian) numbering.
Continues today as the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch and All the East, seated in Damascus.
